ColdFusion and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

I'm sure many of you already know this, but just in case, I've been beating my head against a wall for a while to get this working. SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and the default settings do not work well with CF. I searched and FeedSquirrel found me a set of instructions for how to set it up. Unfortunately, that blog no longer seems to exist (originally from http://www.orbwave.com/cfjboss/2006/04/connecting-coldfusion-to-sql-server.html), but I've found another version of it here: http://www.fusioncube.net/?p=59

Already had my own link (and many others) at http://eee.actcfug.com/ - see:

Point is it does not run on the same port than SQL 2005 Standard does - and that is easy enough to check or change.

Heh - at about the same time as the fusioncube article I posted the same information but without the pretty pictures..

I think this is actually mentioned when you install SQL Server/Express 2005, but I think I probably skimmed over it when I ran the installer.

SQL Server 2005 is the Vista of databases. Everyone I know has ignored it and stayed with 2000.

@Tony,

You really shouldn't ignore it... There are some very cool features in there...

We assessed our Intranet and public Internet site since a first release of 2005 SQL by using CF. MX and MX 7. Other than the mentioned user gotchas, which were small as soon as I read the book, everything seemed to work big - and been quick. Does not point out problems with our main CFC or keeps procedures. They are not tremendously complex, but I think that our complete production stretches should go very slowly. Anyways, just our observations!
